To install the game, unstuff the file with StuffIt expander. A folder titled Aliens Vs. Predator Demo will be created where you downloaded the file. Double click the folder to display all of the folder items.
------------------
To start the game first open the Aliens versus Predator ƒ on your hard drive and then double-click the Aliens versus Predator(tm) Demo icon. Create a new profile name by entering a name and selecting continue to proceed to main menu.
While at the main menu you will be able to change your Audio/Video settings as well as customize your control configuration and choose to play a single or multiplayer game.
*Note: All of the settings can be altered inside the game via the In-game menu accessible through pressing Esc key.
*Note: If you get an error message please refer to the Troubleshooting section of this document to see if the issue is addressed there before contacting Technical Support.
------------------
Console can be accessed by pressing the tilde key "~" found on the top left corner of your keyboard.------------------
*NOTE: These commands can be accessed by running the game using the Aliens versus Predator(tm) Cheat executable. We do not advise tampering with the commands provided below.
Normal Console Commands and Variables
The following CONSOLE VARIABLES are made available (replace the # sign with a number), in-game help is available by typing the "LISTVAR" command at the console:
"MOTIONTRACKERVOLUME" - this is set at its maximum of 1.0 by default, the volume of the tracker can be reduced by changing this number (e.g. to 0.75 or 0.5).
"CROUCHMODE" - this command works as a toggle and is set to 0 by default, and can be set to 1. When set to 0 you will have to hold down the crouch key to stay crouched and when set to 1 you will only have to press the button once to stay crouched and then press it again to stand up.
Debugging Console Commands and Variables
Advanced users may access some of the game's internal debugging commands (which include features such as immortality).
The following CONSOLE COMMANDS are made available by this option, in-game help is available by typing in "LISTCMD" at the console:
"GOD" - makes the player immortal: player will still take damage, but will not die when they reach zero health.
"GIMME_CHARGE" - replenishes Predator power.
"GIVEALLWEAPONS" - self-explanatory.
"LIGHT" - creates a light source near the player. Repeated use makes a brighter and brighter light.
Bot Console Commands:
"ALIENBOT" - creates an Alien in front of the player.
"MARINEBOT #" - creates a Marine (or civilian) of type #.
"PREDOBOT #" - creates a Predator of type #.
"PREDALIENBOT" - creates a Predator-Alien.
"PRAETORIANBOT" - creates a Praetorian Alien.
"XENOBORG" - creates a Xenoborg.
*Note: creating bots may cause crashes and unexpected game behavior.
The following CONSOLE VARIABLES are made available (replace the # sign with a number), in-game help is available by typing the "LISTVAR" command at the console:
"MOTIONTRACKERSPEED" - allows the player to speed up/slow down the pulse rate of the Marine's motion tracker (range from 0-16, default is 1)
"TIMESCALE #" - change the rate at which time flows in the game, e.g. "TIMESCALE 0.5" will make time pass at half the normal speed. For those interested, the "JohnWooMode" cheat uses this effect dynamically, so that time passes slower the more action is happening on screen.
"WIREFRAMEMODE #" - display the environment and/or characters using wireframe graphics.
"DOPPLERSHIFT #" - enable/disable the Doppler shifting on the Alien player's sounds.
"SKY_RED #" - change the red component in a sky.
"SKY_GREEN #" - change the green component in a sky.
"SKY_BLUE #" - change the blue component in a sky.
"LEANSCALE #" - change the amount the camera tilts when side-stepping.
*NOTE: When using the cheat executable, Multiplayer is not available, levels will not be flagged as completed, and no new official cheat options will become available. This basically means that players can examine a level to which they already have access with invulnerability, infinite weapons, etc. but can't open up any new game levels or features.

If you are receiving error messages when you try to run the game you need to make sure that all of the proper files have been installed. Listed below are some of the files you are required to have and information where you can obtain them.
GameSprockets 1.7.5 - This update can also be downloaded from the official apple site (www.apple.com).
OpenGL 1.1.2 - This update can also be downloaded from the official apple site here(www.apple.com).
Wheel mice - the game may not recognize the mouse wheel and you will not be able to use it in game. There is a fix for it. Instead of your manufacturer drivers you will need to use USB Overdrive drivers. These have all of the features of your original mouse drivers plus the wheel will now work with all of the other games where it didn't work before.
KNOWN ISSUES
My mouse stopped working - there is a problem with an Input sprocket which will sometimes disable your mouse. If it happens to you save your game, quit out of it and while on the desktop unplug your mouse and plug it back in. Then launch the game and the mouse should work.
I try to assign my mouse button(s) in the control configuration screen but they do not show up - It might take a few clicks before the game recognises a button. Keep clicking the button until it shows up in the proper control box.
I have a good video card but my screen looks grainy in game - to fix this you simply need to abort the game to the main menu and go to Audio/Video Settings where you can select the video card and resolution option. By default the resolution is set to 640x480x16x(refresh rate may vary depending on your monitor) where 640 is the width, 480 is the height, 16 is the bit color setting, and refresh rate. Change the resolution to use the 32 bit color setting and that should solve your problem.
------------------
Best performance is easily acquired with a lot of System Memory, Video Card Memory and CPU speed.
Of course, in case you don't have an extraordinary computer gameplay can be improved by customizing the levels of detail using our Detail Levels Menu and choosing to play in a lower video resolution.
The first thing you can do to speed up the game is to turn on your virtual memory and use some of your drive space as memory.
Next start Aliens versus Predator Gold Edition and select Audio/Video Options from the main menu.
Inside Audio/Video Options menu select Video Card and resolution and check if you can lower resolution by scrolling left or right. After you found the proper resolution don't forget to select "Use These Settings" and not just press Esc to go back, otherwise the settings will not take effect.
When you are back inside Audio/Video Options menu select Detail Levels Menu and then lowering or turning Off some of the settings such as Light Coronas and Deformable Explosions. Once again do not forget to "Use These Settings" to go back instead of Esc to apply the changes.
------------------
You can bind new keys to controls by accessing the Controls menu of the Main menu inside Aliens versus Predator and then selecting the appropriate species. Although you can rely solely on your keyboard to Aliens versus Predator, using both the keyboard and mouse simultaneously gives you much more fluid and responsive control.
*Note: All the controls are species specific which means you can assign different controls to every species without destroying your other species control configurations.
You are also able to change the controls while playing the game inside the In-game menu under configuration menus for Mouse, Joystick and species specific Key configuration menu. To configure your mouse or joystick, enter their menus while at the Aliens versus Predator Controls menu.
When you use the mouse to control your rotational movement and aiming you gain a degree of precision and speed that players using keyboard-only controls can't touch. The keyboard is best used for easy lateral and forward/backward movement, and for jumping.
To master the default controls in Aliens versus Predator Gold Edition, keep your left hand on the keyboard, using the arrow keys for movement, Shift for jumping, Ctrl for crouching, and the Enter key for operating switches. Your right hand operates the mouse, controlling rotation, aiming, and firing. Of course, you can customize these controls to suit your preferences via the Controls Menu.
------------------
At this moment you will not be able to play multiplayer games between Mac and PC computers, but this issue is being addressed and will be fixed via a Patch soon.
Supported compatibility features:
-You are able to share your user profiles with your friends who may be Mac or PC users, it will work fine. So if your friend cannot progress past a certain level and you have you can easily help him/her out. Locate the folder called User Profiles inside your game folder, then find the appropriate profile name and share it with your friend.
- You are able to use user created levels that were made on PC. The game uses the same format.

Installing Patches, Add-ons and Updates
Check www.avpnews.com often for game mods, new single and multiplayer levels, and skins created by AvP fans.
To install such an update first check if the package includes a Readme file with installation instructions. Then locate the folder called Place New Data Here inside your game folder. Unstuff or Unpack the downloaded file first and then drop all of the files and folders in the above folder. When the game is run next time it will move the files to proper places and the Place New Data Here folder will be empty. You can download the expander utility here.
*Note: The first time you run the game after installing the update or add-on it make take a longer time to start because the game will automatically move all of the files to proper folders. But it will only take that long one time.
